She recognized soon after starting private practice that academic western medicine, while crucial, is inadequate at addressing many mind-body problems that her patients experience. Her integrative medicine training includes learning mind-body medicine and Ayurveda as well as meditation from Dr. Deepak Chopra and David Simon, and numerous yearly pilgrimages to Kripalu Center for Yoga in Lenox, Mass. She has attended workshops and/or studied the works of Andrew Weil, Carolyn Myss, Judith Orloff, Rachel Naome Remen, Thomas Moore, Wayne Dyer, Jon Kabat-Zinn and Herbert Benson. Dr. Olson founded Lotus, the Educational Center for Integrative Healing and Wellness in 1997. Lotus, a 15 year old not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization, studies and disseminates evidence-based research on complementary healing arts and western medicine. Lotus creates a place for dialogue on integrative medicine among many healing arts professionals in the greater Waterbury area of Connecticut.
